Important Message from AAP Peer Learning

Dear AAP Community:

As you are aware, the university has directed that many services be offered online for Spring quarter. These services include peer learning offered through AAP. We know that peer learning is an important support service for many of our students and we are working hard to continue to support you as much as possible.

REMOTE PEER LEARNING SESSIONS:

For Spring 2020, we are exploring different online platforms we can use to deliver our services. Zoom looks very promising. But if we adopt other platforms, you will be made aware of them by your PLFs.

PEER LEARNING SIGN-UPS:

We want to remind you that peer learning sign-ups will continue to be done through MyUCLA  following the Peer Learning pass system protocol beginning Wednesday April 1, 2020 (Week 1). In addition, you will receive a notification via MyUCLA to remind you of enrollment passes. We still plan on offering the same number of courses as we did last Spring. Please make sure to sign up during the first three weeks of the quarter.  In addition, your PLFs will be reaching out to you via email to provide instructions and/or necessary information before your first session(s). Peer Learning sessions will  resume online on Monday April 6, 2020 (Week 2) of Spring Quarter. Although the Peer Learning Unit Administrative Team will be responding to email requests as much as possible, in-person support will not be available this quarter.).

 PLF APPLICATION:

The 2020-2021 AAP PLF Application will be available online by the end of Week 1 during Spring Quarter. Undergraduate students interested in applying for this position may visit our website for all position and application information. PLF Information Sessions will be conducted via Zoom during Weeks 2 and 3. A general message to the AAP and UCLA community will be sent out once the application is released and specific dates and times for the Information Sessions are made available.

Tuition and Payment Plan Extension and Course Material Fee Suspension

To the Campus Community:
We are aware that the COVID-19 pandemic may be creating unforeseen financial challenges for our students and their families, and we are working diligently with our campus partners to address its effects on the Bruin community.In an effort to help members of our community manage their finances during this turbulent time, UCLA has decided to make the following changes for spring quarter 2020:

BruinPay Plan enrollment. Students can continue to enroll in BruinPay Plan through Friday, April 10 at 5 p.m. PDT. Eligible students can enroll in BruinPay Plan to pay their term tuition and registration fees in monthly installments (three installments for quarter students). If you are eligible to enroll, you will see an active enrollment link on the BruinBill homepage under the My BruinPay Plan section.  You will need a U.S. checking or savings account or a credit card to complete enrollment.

Spring term tuition. The deadline for online payment through BruinBill for spring quarter 2020 has been extended to April 10 at 5 p.m. PDT. Please note that no changes have been announced for the spring quarter 2020 UC systemwide and campus-based fee. If changes occur, they will be reflected on your BruinBill. More information can be found on the Registrar’s Office COVID-19 FAQ.

Spring quarter 2020 Course Materials Fees. In light of the campus’s plans to offer remote instruction for spring 2020, UCLA is suspending all undergraduate and graduate Course Materials Fees that are tied to specific courses. The list of courses that will not be charged Course Materials Fees for spring 2020 can be found on the Registrar’s Office website.

More information on available payment options will follow in the coming days. In the meantime, for questions related to the tuition or BruinPay Plan deadline extensions, please contact the Student Accounts Office via the MyUCLA Message Center or by calling (310) 825-9194 (dial option 7).

We are deeply saddened at our world’s current state of affairs. The pace of change, uncertainty, and the complexity of the challenges we face have made this a very difficult time for everyone. The AAP Counseling Team wants you to know we are doing everything possible to continue to remain connected to all students and guide them through this turbulent time. Our priority is you and our staffs’ safety, therefore, we want you to be aware of changes that we have made in our service to you.

AAP Counseling HUB located in 1205 Campbell Hall will remain closed to protect and respect you and staff. You are able to connect with us via MyUCLA Message Center-AAP Counseling and responses will be made within 24 business hours.  Between 3/16-3/26, Monday-Friday our online business hours will be 9am-4pm.  Here you can submit a question regarding petitioning or general academic policy. Letter to ALL AAP Scholars

Dear AAP Scholar,
As you know the Chancellor recently sent out a notice to the UCLA Community announcing the cancellation of all in person classes. We are being asked to provide remote instruction and services using the technology and resources that the campus has provided. We want you to know that the Academic Advancement Program (AAP) cares about your health and well-being, and hope that you will take the necessary precautions to be safe. Our offices will be open during the suspension of classes and staff will be available to provide the services and support as usual. You may receive information from the various AAP units letting you know how they will be operating during this difficult time. Some of our services may be offered remotely, such as peer learning, academic counseling, and mentoring. We are currently in the process of evaluating the best tools for this purpose. We are still available for face to face meetings as well. However, we will not be conducting large group events such as workshops, presentations, and peer learning sessions until further notice from campus officials.

Again, please take all the precautions necessary to protect yourself, your fellow student, and family members. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. I wish you the best on your final exams and hope that you make the best of your Spring break. Take care and GO BRUINS!
